Please reach us at Shay@seasidecounselling.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Before we have our first session, I offer a free 15-minute consultation (by phone or by telehealth) where you can ask me questions to help give you clarity of whether you'd like to book a full session. If after we have a few sessions, we determine you might need a different approach, I would be happy to provide you some recommendations for another counsellor.
Your first session with me will be taken slow, where we can get to know one another, and I can hear a bit about of your history and background. We will ease into the topics you would like to discuss or challenges you are wanting support facing, and come up with goals for therapy together. It's okay if you are nervous, I will walk you through it!
Most extended health benefit providers require a detailed receipt for session fees to be reimbursed, which I can send promptly by email. Being a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), sessions with me are covered by most extended health benefit plans. However, please check with your provider to make sure you can be reimbursed for your sessions with an RCC.
Additionally, I am a registered provider with FIrst Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP), for which I can direct bill.
Most clients like to attend counselling weekly to start while we get comfortable with one another and your reason for counselling may be more acute. As you start to make headway on your therapy goals, you may feel ready to move to bi-weekly sessions. However, I also understand that counselling can be a financial, time and energy investment and we can work with a frequency that is most comfortable for you. We can also choose and date and time that can be reserved for you.
